The exhibition venue was Villa Dürkheim, built in 1912 by Henry van de Velde, which received an extension in the 1930s and served as the Stasi headquarters in Weimar from the 1960s until 1989.

For the exhibition „Hotel van de Velde“ ten objects created for the location, so-called „short cuts“, were presented in the attic of the vacant Villa Dürkheim. („short cuts“ are furniture objects compressed to miniature size by disassembling and removing the middle parts.) The objects transformed the space into a kind of surreal temporary hotel room. The door to the room had been unhinged and also transformed into a „short cut“.
